A few of our favorite Labor Day 2017 sales for furniture and home goods

A long weekend is a perfect time to do some home-decor daydreaming and shopping — especially since a slew of furniture and home-goods retailers have serious Labor Day weekend sales kicking off now.

For our own homes, we shop locally in Nashville most of the time, but on occasion, the desire to refresh a space converges with big discounts, and we can’t pass it up.

Below, just a few of the big Labor Day 2017 sales we’ll be sitting down with this weekend, cup of coffee and credit card in hand.

Dot & Bo Countdown to Labor Day Sale

Online home-stuff retailer Dot & Bo’s Labor Day sale is a pretty good one, with 50 percent off indoor and outdoor furniture and decor. They stock styles that span across just about all aesthetics — glamorous Hollywood Regency-style nightstands to dining chairs with Scandinavian simplicity. But Dot & Bo is one of the better places to turn, in particular, if you’re looking to bring in iconic mid-century designs and don’t have the budget for the real thing — stuff like the Eames-ish seating and Saarinen-inspired table pictured above.

Target Labor Day home sale

Target’s emphasis on ramping up style with their home-goods lines (like Threshold and Pillowfort) — while keeping prices reasonable — deserves the love it’s been earning. If you’re just starting out, just bought a new home that needs tons of furnishings and decor, or trying to keep your decorating budget tight, this weekend will be a great opportunity to get some designing done. They’re cutting up to 30 percent off home items, plus offering an extra 15 percent through Monday with the code LABORDAY.

Jonathan Adler Labor Day Sale

Nashville homeowners drawn to “Modern American Glamor” might want to use this week to peruse JonathanAdler.com — Wednesday through Tuesday, you can get 20 percent off all furniture, plus an extra 20 percent on markdowns. The pieces there are on the higher end, with more options in the thousands than hundreds. But if you’re shopping in that bracket, savings like these are that much more serious. Take something like the Whitaker Swivel Chair above, already marked down to $1499.99 from $2250, plus 20 percent off with code JA2020.

Article Labor Day sale

Article is an excellent place to turn for quality pieces with simple design — lots of mid-century/sleek Scandinavian lines — at a middle-of-the-road price point. For Labor Day (and through September 10), it’ll dip a little below the middle, with up to 20 percent off select items, like this velvet-clad, feather-stuffed, updated take on the Chesterfield sofa. (It retails for $3000, marked down to $1299.)

Apt2B Labor Day Sale

If you haven’t shopped Apt2B before, their founders list their m.o. like this: “Simplicity is sexy and Don Draper is real.” That translates into a lot of midcentury-style furniture, but they get a little louder too — like the above made-in-the-U.S. credenza by Giorgiana. It’s among the markdowns for their Labor Day sale, through Monday: They’re doing 15 percent off sitewide, plus 60 percent off their outlet items. Those outlet finds are the real killers this weekend, with stuff like this winter-white Fillmore sofa marked down to $759 from $1898.

Lulu & Georgia Go Bananas Sale

Lulu & Georgia is a California-based retailer with a more curated selection of home goods and furniture, but it’s a really great mix of iconic throwback designs and bigger glamor. The Go Bananas Sale they have going for Labor Day weekend has savings that escalate as you shop — 10 percent off $300 with the code GOOD, 15 percent off $550 (“BETTER”), 20 percent off $800 (“BEST”) and 25 percent off $1500 (“BANANAS”). They have a particular knack for finding fantastic and feminine pieces — like the painted Desert Rug and perfectly pink Moroccan pouf pictured above — so if you’ve been itching to outfit an elegant retreat, this weekend might be the perfect time.

Wayfair Labor Day Clearance

They’re going pretty bananas over at Wayfair too, with discounts up to 70 percent on rugs, 65 percent on bedroom furniture, 70 percent on bedding and on and on. We always find that site to be a solid standby for simple staples — you’re not going to buy heirloom pieces here, but if you need a sectional for the playroom under $300 that actually looks decent, it can happen.

AllModern Labor Day Sale

AllModern’s in the Wayfair family, so you always see a similarly busy array of options there, with an emphasis on modern designs. And for Labor Day, there’s a similarly intense sale happening — up to 65 percent off offs and sectionals, dining chairs and tables, bar stools, beds, lighting… pretty much you name it, it’s on sale. So it’s a chance to get really cool pieces, like the Patricia Solid Wood Dining Chairs pictured here, at great prices (these were up for $189.99 a pair).
