Finding the perfect midcentury ranch home for sale in Nashville

A lot of the homes for sale in Nashville that we list here at ACRE are of the newly-built persuasion — and we’re proud and thankful, since we’ve gotten to work with some of the best, most dependable and most gifted builders here in town.

But we all also have personal soft spots for older homes (we just took on a top-to-bottom renovation of a historic Belmont home, and it was a labor of love, heavy on the labor).

One style of older home that we (and lots of other homeowners and homebuyers in Nashville) really love: the classic midcentury ranch. Those prove inarguably that you can tell the whole, stylish story in just one story.

It should come as no surprise then that we were absolutely thrilled to get to list the above home, 909 Woods Lake Drive, in still-affordable and steadily growing Madison, Tennessee, a straight shot north of Nashville.

That 3-bed, 2 1/2-bath home was built in 1959, and although it has a mix of upgrades — including a renovated kitchen — you’ll see original, time-capsule traits that lots of midcentury lovers get hooked by, like sweet turquoise bath tile and knotty pine paneling.

It sits on just shy of an acre of beautiful wooded property — one of those great bonuses you can find heading just outside downtown to Madison. Extra fun bonus for homeowners who like to keep their nightlife local: It’s barely five minutes from the in-the-works Madison Bowl reinvention, a combo venue/bar/restaurant/bowling alley that’s threatening to be our new/old favorite place.

This one’s a particularly perfect pick for first-time homebuyers, too, listed at under $210,000. Head here for more about 909 Woods Lake Drive if you’re intrigued, and let us know if you’d like to explore in person.

If you’re a midcentury ranch lover but you’re more driven to stick specifically to Nashville, we checked the Middle Tennessee MLS for some similarly cool Nashville properties, also on the market now. Check those out below.

Midcentury ranch homes on the market in Nashville

2842 Lakeland Dr
Nashville, TN 37214
$320,000

A renovated, classic brick ranch in Donelson that’ll be perfect for a homebuyer who wants mid-century bones, but not too much of the original midcentury interior detail.

524 River Rouge Dr
Nashville, TN 37209
$369,900

Over in the vicinity of the fast-growing Charlotte Corridor, new builds are popping up quickly, but there’s still a stock of midcentury homes like this one — 3 beds, 2 1/2 baths and some cool original details, like black and white bathroom tile and kitchen cabinets.

4404 Prescott Rd
Nashville, TN 37204
$559,900

This 1960 Oak Hill ranch has a bit of a mixed personality — multiple bathrooms with midcentury tile and fun painted paneling, but then an updated kitchen with farmhouse-y touches, and a renovated bath with ‘80s design touchstones too. If you prize cohesiveness, it’d take a little attention to pull everything into the same place in time. But those beautiful midcentury bones are there, and it’d be a nice, spacious place to live while you fleshed out your midcentury vision.

6329 Bresslyn Rd
Nashville, TN 37205
$935,000

Many midcentury ranches are in the 1600- to 2000-square-foot range in Nashville, but you’ll also find a sprawling one from time to time — like this nearly 4000-square-foot upgraded ranch in West Meade. All-around, it’s light and crisp but homey, with some key additions — like a big, spa-centric master bath and seriously luxurious laundry room. Another plus: park-like 1 1/4-acre property.
