Just to set a foundation: The act of giving is of course its own reward, and especially during the holiday season, it’s something those of us who have the means to help our neighbors tend to rightfully feel a pull toward.
Still, it’s nice when you give and get a little something fun in return, beyond the glow of being a generous person/good neighbor.
Leading up to this Thanksgiving in Nashville, there are lots of different ways that we can pitch in to help neighbors in need. But if you happen to be a Jack White fan, or a Margo Price fan, or a Joshua Hedley fan, Third Man Records’ food drive is an option you might want to take a look at.
How to take part in Third Man Records’ Thanksgiving food drive
The basics about Third Man Records’ Thanksgiving food drive: The Nashville-based record label and creative hub just launched this year’s effort, and to take part, you’ll need to bring either:
— a frozen turkey, weighing 10 pounds or more
— or any three of these items: #10 can of green beans, corn, or mixed vegetables; corn bread mix; stuffing mix; canned cranberry sauce; sugar; or coffee
If you have a turkey to share, you can drop it at Third Man Records’ place in downtown Nashville (623 7th Ave S.) during regular business hours. If you’re choosing any of the other items, either Third Man or the Bridgestone Arena box office (corner of 5th and Broadway, downtown) can accept your donations.
Everything Third Man collects this year will go toward the Nashville Rescue Mission, which served nearly 600,000 hot meals to needy Nashvillians last year alone.
What you get in return
For pitching in on Third Man Records’ Thanksgiving food drive, you’ll get the warmth of helping neighbors, and a few generous thank yous from the label.
Each donor gets a discount code for 30 percent off tickets to label head Jack White’s upcoming hometown show at Bridgestone Arena, on Nov. 20, which’ll also feature Nashville country talents/Third Man labelmates Margo Price and Joshua Hedley.
Tickets for that show, which range from $32.50 to $72.50, are on sale now through Ticketmaster.
All food drive participants also get entered into a drawing for a test pressing of White’s latest album, Boarding House Reach, signed by the artist, along with a side-stage ticket upgrade.
You have until Nov. 18 to get your donations in. Questions about the food drive? Lots more info at Jack White’s official website.
