Some of us indulge in Nashville’s official food, hot chicken, on a weekly basis. Others are more inclined to moderation, whether because of the worth-it pain or the worth-it calories. Either way, if you only pencil in your Nashville civic dining duty once this year, January 23 through 29 is the week to do it.
That week: the Nashville Scene’s Hot Chicken Week, which invites you to partake in fiery fowl all around the city, at a value-meal price.
During the weeklong event, a spate of Nashville restaurants that span the culinary map — from chicken places to sushi spots — will have daily hot chicken specials, every one of them on the menu for $5. It’ll give you a chance to grab lunch and/or dinner on the cheap, and try a mix of different takes on our locally bred but now nationally famous dish.
Among the participating restaurants: lots of expected players, like the original hot chicken providers, Prince’s Hot Chicken, and other Nashville hot chicken mainstays (Bolton’s Spicy Chicken & Fish, 400 Degrees); plus less obvious contributors, like East Nashville’s Nomzilla! Sushi Et Cetera, West Nashville’s Lucky Bamboo China Bistro, gourmet burger place The Slider House in Midtown and many others.
It’s easy to take part: No tickets/passes/etc. needed, just look through the mix of contributing restaurants, stop at the ones you like, and order the special. Five bucks later, and you’re good to go, hot chicken in hand.
Don’t feel like heading out much but still want to do some Hot Chicken Week celebrating? The Scene’s partnered with UberEATS as the official Hot Chicken Week delivery service — they work in neighborhoods across the city, including The Gulch, Sylvan Park, East Nashville, Belle Meade and Brentwood, so there’s a good chance you can snag your chosen hot chicken special without leaving the confines of your pajamas. (Check the UberEATS website to see your options.)
For more info, hit the Nashville Scene Hot Chicken Week Facebook Event page. Hope to see you out and about, working up a spice-related sweat. (And remember: Water doesn’t do much to cool the burn. Always milk. White Russians probably work too.)
Side benefit of doing some Hot Chicken Week exploring that relates to what we do here at ACRE: It’s a great excuse to check out a bunch of Nashville neighborhoods, and see if one/several catch your heart as the right place to settle down and buy a home.
