Pro tips for making your Thanksgiving in Nashville easier

We know most of you are still getting prepped for Halloween, but Thanksgiving rolls up fast — along with the accompanying food responsibilities.

If you’re planning on hosting Thanksgiving at your Nashville home this year, and could use a little help, local pro tip: Get some neighbors to do the cooking.

A few of our favorite Nashville Thanksgiving-dinner solutions:

For the turkey: Ask a Boy Scout

Our favorite way to get the turkey handled in Nashville: booking the Boy Scouts. East Nashville’s Troop 3 does a turkey fry fundraiser every year, which helps neighbors sort their bird cookery out easily, and helps the scouts do all kinds of fun and educational stuff.

For $55, you’ll get a 12- to 14-pound fried turkey, available for pickup in East Nashville on Wednesday, Nov. 23. All you need to do is reserve yours by emailing the troop. More info on their Troop 3 Annual Turkey Fry Fundraiser Event page.

For the trimmings: Ask the pros

For a few years now, culinary-events wranglers Juniper Green have been offering high-end, home-cooked dishes for everything from corporate retreats to holiday meals, and their menus are always both familiar and surprising.

Their 2018 Thanksgiving menu is no different. The stuffing is made with brown butter and roasted apples. The sweet potato casserole has rosemary marshmallow fluff and salt-and-pepper candied pecans. The cranberry sauce has sweet clementines balancing out the tartness. And the apple pie game is upped with salted caramel.

Everything is available a la carte and in several sizes (from servings that’ll take care of 8-10 guests or 18-20 guests), and you can order now through Saturday, Nov. 17, with pickup or delivery on Wednesday, Nov. 21.

For the decor: Try some FLWRs

We work a stone’s throw away from East Nashville floral artists FLWR Shop, and we love pretty much everything they do (if you’re a client, you might’ve gotten a FLWR Shop closing gift that we picked especially for you). Their arrangements are truly second to none in Nashville, from wedding centerpieces to everyday bouquets.

So, naturally, if you’re trying to make your Thanksgiving dinner table in Nashville look extra special, they’ll have something that does the job effortlessly. Tell them about the blooms you like, or — our preference — trust them to pick the freshest and most beautiful stems with a Designer’s Choice arrangement. We’ve never been anything less than thrilled.

For more on FLWR Shop, visit flwrshop.com, or swing by 123 S. 11th St. in East Nashville.

Hope one or several of these help make your Nashville Thanksgiving get-together easier, more delicious and/or more beautiful.
