We love the fact that Nashville, as a community, is unfailingly supportive of independent businesses, artists, artisans and makers. That environment helps spur a steady stream of local artisan markets all around town, all through the year. And that gives us great places to send new homeowners for decor/inspiration, to buy unique closing gifts for clients and snag cool items for our own homes.
On that note: This weekend brings the Crafty Bastards Arts & Crafts Fair, a sale/exhibition of handmade goods and neighborhood fair that’ll make for a fine way to spend a fall afternoon in Nashville.
The event has roots in Washington, D.C. — alt-weekly publication the Washington City Paper got it going there, and its local sister, the Nashville Scene, brings the concept to Middle Tennessee.
Like its Mid-Atlantic forebear, Nashville’s Crafty Bastards isn’t just a shopping excursion — there’ll be craft beer and food trucks, plus live music and other entertainment, for when you need a break from browsing.
The mix of vendors is a particularly good one, too, if you’re in the middle of fleshing out your home’s decor. Looking through the list of artists and artisans scheduled to attend, we’ve already penciled down a bunch of work that we think could look fantastic in a Nashville homebuyer’s new place.
Below, we picked out a few of our favorite pieces from Crafty Bastards Nashville participants. Want to check this stuff out in person? The fair is set for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. this Saturday, Nov. 6, at the intersection of 11th Ave S and Laurel Street in The Gulch, and admission is free.
