Time to get cozy: 5 blankets we love from Nashville shops

The fact that we haven’t really had a big chill yet this year in Nashville shouldn’t take your eye off something pressing: We need to be prepping to get cozy.

Aside of firing up the fireplace, the best way to make sure your home’s ready for maximum winter coziness is to have a cache of great, snuggly blankets at the ready. Cute, snuggly blankets: even better.

Just in case you don’t have that sorted out, we explored a few of our favorite Nashville shops/brands to dig up some winter 2015 warmth that you’ll also be proud to display in your home, draped over a chair, a couch, or yourself.

woolrich

Woolrich Suffolk Blanket

White’s Mercantile (2908 12th Ave South, Nashville)
$198

Singer-songwriter Holly Williams has an impeccable, unforced sense of style, and that’s obvious when you look around her shop, White’s Mercantile, in 12 South. Case in point: these classic, 100 percent wool Woolrich blankets, with completely natural colors (i.e. no dye) and selvage sides. “These historic throws have been a part of my life since my grandpa White had them scattered around his Louisiana ranch house,” she says. “They are classic and warm, just like he was. One of my favorite things for the living room or to cozy up with by the fire pit.”

Vintage Kantha Quilt

Vintage Kantha Quilt

Castilleja (1200 Villa Place, Suite 403, Nashville)
$98

Edgehill Village’s Castilleja is led by another gifted Nashville musician: Grammy-winning songwriter Liz Rose, who lent her gifts to many a Taylor Swift song. She also lends her good taste to the shelves at her shop. Among Castilleja’s beautiful offerings: these Kantha quilts, made from reclaimed saris, with bold pops of color and unfussy stitching.

Mehari Blanket

Mehari Blanket

fashionABLE
$78

fashionABLE’s scarves, blankets, jewelry and more are special on several fronts — they’re gorgeous, for starters, but they’re also made by women in Ethiopia, many of whom have escaped prostitution and addiction with the help and opportunity provided by this Nashville company. Each piece is named for a woman who works with fashionABLE; Mehari’s namesake blanket is 100 percent Ethiopian cotton, perfect for cuddling up inside on the coach or outside by the fire pit. You can buy directly from fashionABLE online, or at a mix of local shops, including Sisters of Nature in East Nashville (521 Gallatin Avenue).

Wilder stripe throw

Stripe Throw

Wilder (1212 4th Avenue North, Nashville)
$180

Wilder co-owners Ivy and Josh came to Nashville from New York, and in their Germantown shop, they’re stocking home goods that are as Nashville-approachable as New York-cosmopolitan. These cotton Dusen Dusen throws are for folks who aren’t about to shy away from big color when it comes to getting cozy.

Draper James wool blanket

Wool Blanket

Draper James (2608 12th Avenue South, Nashville)

$350

Nashville-raised actress Reese Witherspoon recently launched Draper James to celebrate the “special breed of charm and grace that’s signature to the American South,” opening her flagship store here at home, in 12 South. At the shop, you’ll find clothing, accessories and home goods, like this merino wool blanket, with natural colors aside of the pop of welcoming blue, hand-dyed with plant dyes. It’s the kind of blanket that’ll only get more lovable and snuggly with time.
